Happy 2018Jan 03, 2018
Welcome to this episode. I'm Tom Koster, and this is the first podcast of the year 2018. I want to start with wishing you a Happy New Year. A new year gives new opportunities, new chances to grow your business, to take your business to the next level, but I want to take a moment to look back at last year, at 2017, and I want to share with you a little bit about how my business went in 2017, and maybe you can benefit from that information, and you can pick it up and see what you can do with your business in 2018.
One thing I did start in 2017 was to start a podcast, and this is, episode number 43 of the podcast. I started the podcast in February, late February 2017, and since then, I've pretty much had a podcast every week. The reason why I did that was to share my information, is to share content which I think is valuable in helping you grow your business, in helping you taking your business to the next level, and in helping you increasing your income.
In building the business, what I also realised last year, 2017, is the fact that really, it's more important to build a stable, solid business, who can provide you year after year with money, with income, with opportunities, than to have a big business this year, maybe next year, and in five years, you have no business at all. What you don't want is the business rollercoaster, where in one year, you're doing terrific. You make a lot of money, and then the next year, you're doing very bad, and you hardly make any money, and that's not what I recommend.
My recommendation is to build a stable, solid business, and I've been in business for more than 23 years. I started my business in 1994.
The basics of my business is a combination of techniques, internet techniques, websites, internet marketing, social media, and IT. And the basics are my local clients. My clients in my own local area, and what I can say, truly, from the bottom of my heart, is if you want to start a business, if you want to build a stable business, if you are in business right now, in marketing, in technology, in IT, that might be a model for you to follow too, because what I am teaching is not the traditional business model.
What they teach in business school is to raise a lot of capital, to hire a lot of people, to have a lot of staff, to have this office building, to have all this cost, and maybe at the end, you make a little bit of profit, and that's fine. But that's not what my experience is. My experience is over the years, over more than 24 years of being in business, it's better to stay small. It's better to be the one-stop shop for your clients, as I am the one-stop shop for my clients.
I help my clients with websites, with internet marketing, with social media, with email marketing, with Google AdWords, with IT stuff, and I do it all myself, with a small group of assistants, with a small group of partners, but the constant factor is that when my client needs anything in that category, they come to me, and I help them. I am their point of contact, so if they want to replace me, they at least need two, maybe three or four, other people to do the things that I'm doing for them, and they know it.
Not only that, with the work I do for my clients, I help them make more money, so eventually, I am a profit center for a lot of my clients, meaning that I help them make more money than they pay me, and it's not about me, it's about you.
You can do the same thing. You can be the profit center for your clients too, but it's a learning curve, and it's not an easy learning curve. That's what I also know. You need to know the basics about internet marketing, about social media, about web, about techniques.
You don't need to do it all from the beginning, and maybe you don't need to do it all, at all, but you need more than one skill. You need more than just web design. You need more than just internet marketing. You need more than just Google AdWords or social media. You need to combine your services and offer that to your clients, so you can help them, and you are a relief to them. Right?
That's what I'm teaching in my Create Revenue Now programs, in my Deluxe Program about marketing and sales, in my Basic Program just about sales, and in my VIP Program. And in the VIP Program, I teach other people in other regions what I do in my region in the East part of the Netherlands called De Achterhoek.
Also, what I did is I invested a lot of my time, a lot of my money in optimising my knowledge, in presenting my knowledge in any way through our new membership site of tomkoster.mykajabi.com. That took a lot of time to finally build it, but it's more than ready to go out, and I will provide valuable content over time to be of value to our members.
With this, I end this first information session, this first podcast of the year 2018, wishing you a Happy New Year, and I'm here to helping you increasing your income.
Have a good day.
Bye for now.
